Safari description

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park and Bigodi Wetlands Walk

Your journey begins early in the morning with a meet-up with our company representative at a hotel in Kampala. After a briefing about the safari, you embark on a drive to Kibale Forest. From Kampala, the drive takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, about 300 km. You will arrive at your lodge near Kibale in time for lunch and some relaxation.

In the afternoon, you will head to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, located just outside Kibale National Park. The guided walk at Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary lasts about 2 to 3 hours. At Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, your guide will help you spot red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, vervet monkeys, numerous bird species, including the great blue turaco, and many more. In the evening, you will get back to the lodge and have dinner. After dinner, you will retire to bed.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest and transfer back to Kampala

Wake up early for breakfast before transferring to the park headquarters for a briefing at Kibale Forest National Park. Chimpanzee trekking typically begins in the morning when the chimps are most active. After a short briefing from park rangers, you will enter the forest to start the trek. Kibale is home to over 1,500 chimpanzees and 13 primate species, making it one of Africa’s best primate tracking destinations.

Chimpanzee trekking will take you about 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on the movement of the chimps. When you spot the chimpanzees, you are allowed one full hour with them once located. In that one hour, you will watch them feed, play, breastfeed and much more. You will take pictures of them for memories and reference. After the trek, you will return to the visitor centre, where you will receive a tracking certificate.

You will then return to your lodge for lunch and freshening up before beginning the drive back to Kampala, a journey that will take approximately 5 to 6 hours. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at a hotel.
